UCLG in collaboration with the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Associations of Local Governments (FLACMA), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Association of Municipalities of Bolivia (AMB), organized last April a peer learning event on the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems to highlight the main urban challenges and opportunities in Amazonian cities. A glimpse into the interesting experiences, challenges and opportunities that were shared and discussed during the peer learning event in Riberalta is now online with this publication about “Amazonian Cities. Peer Learning about the sustainable use of territorial ecosystems”. (+)

8th Africities Summit: envisioning the future for the African region

Africities is the great municipalist gathering of the African Continent. Held in the Pearl City of Marrakech, in Morocco and organized by the African section of UCLG (UCLG Africa). The event gathered over more than 8,000 participants from 53 countries across the continent and it has been the gathering in which the African municipal movement has tackled, with a hopeful perspective, the most important -and even painful- issues of the Region. Housing - 31/12/2018
Our constituency lived a historical turning point last 15 and 16 July, when a group of major global cities brought to the UN a firm pledge for the Right to Housing in the form of the Declaration “Cities for Adequate Housing”. This global call to action builds on the #MakeTheShift campaign, launched by the UN Rapporteur on Adequate Housing.  (+)

On the occasion of the 8th Africities Summit, held from 20-24 November 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco and entitled “The Transition to Sustainable Cities and Territories, The Role of Local and Sub-National Governments of Africa”, African and European local elected women adopted the Africa-Europe Marrakech Pact to further collaborate on the elaboration of a charter for local gender equality in Africa.
