UCLG held its first Policy Debate session on 17th June 2014, dedicated to a crosscutting theme of UCLG's global agenda: Planning and Public Spaces. Participants joined this meeting to analyse two dimensions of the urban agenda.
Representatives of sub-national authorities from across the world called for local ownership of the post-2015 development agenda at a meeting in Liverpool on the 17th of June.
Bilbao a été choisir pour accueillir le premier Sommet de CGLU sur la Culture en 2015, lors de la réunion du Bureau Exécutif qui s’est tenue à Liverpool. Depuis la création de CGLU lors du Congrès de Paris, la culture a été au cœur de CGLU, comme démontré par l’adoption de l’Agenda 21 sur la Culture.
Le Bureau exécutif de Cités et Gouvernements Locaux Unis aura lieu à Liverpool au Royaume Uni du 17 au 19 juin 2014 à l’invitation du Maire de Liverpool, M. Joe Anderson, et de l’Association des Gouvernements Locaux (LGA) à l’occasion du International Festival for Business.
CGLU a présenté son rapport annuel d’activités pour la période 2013 à Liverpool à l’occasion de la réunion du Bureau Exécutif le 19 juin 2014. Le rapport compile toutes les activités réalisées par l’organisation mondiale au cours de 2013.
Following a meeting of the Task Team (made up of representatives of UCLG Africa, UCLG MEWA, FLACMA, Platform and the UCLG World Secretariat) on the 24th of June, the EU Policy Forum on Development (PFD) in the Latin America and the Caribbean region was held in Lima, Peru, on 25-26th of June.
With the negotiations on climate are resuming in Bonn from 2 to 13 June, the Local Governments and Municipal Authorities constituency, has convened a delegation of technical and political representatives to participate in the meetings.
A learning exchange event on “Re-imagining public spaces” was held from the 4th to 6th of June in Durban, South Africa. The event was jointly hosted by eThewkini – Durban, COGTA (provincial body of the Ministry of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs), UCLG, UCLG Africa, and UN Habitat.

Assoc. Prof. Barış KARAPINAR, lecturer at Boğaziçi University, delivered a talk on “Intergovernmental Climate Change Panel Fifth Evaluation Report: Effects of Climate Changes on Cities, Vulnerabilities and Harmony”, at the UCLG-MEWA Headquarters in Sultanahmet.

Du 3 au 5 Juin 2014, des représentants de gouvernements locaux, régionaux et nationaux, accompagnés d’organismes internationaux, d’associations, de chercheurs, d’universitaires et de représentants de la société civile venant de trente-cinq pays différents, se sont rendus à Canoas (Brésil) pour la 14ème Conférence de l’OIDP.

Le « Prix international CGLU – Ville de MEXICO – Culture 21 » a pour objectif de récompenser les leaders – villes et personnes – qui se sont distingués par leur contribution à la culture en tant que dimension du développement durable. Le Prix contribue également à diffuser la mise en œuvre locale de l’Agenda 21 de la culture.

Citiscope’s urban innovation feature this week is on the “ideas camp” for European cities hosted recently by Bloomberg Philanthropies in Berlin. The 21 cities are finalists in the most recent round of the Bloomberg Mayors Challenge.
Between 10th and 12th June, the Cities Forum, took place at IFEMA, Madrid. The forum was attended by Mayors and Managers of Ibero-American cities, present to discuss issues such as sustainability, service management, public space and governance, among others.
A new tool has been produced for local and regional governments to contribute to the post-2015 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda of Habitat III in 2016. It is the creation of UCLG, the Global Network of Cities, Local and Regional Governments, an organisation that represents the interests of local governments on the world stage.

A new global framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR) must seek to strengthen the role of local government because the impact of all disasters is local, the 4th Session of the Americas Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction heard on Wednesday. With urban populations set to continue rising, it is vital that local governments can mount an effective responses to the environmental threats their populations may face.
